    August 2008

July was a busy month at the Jackson household. We celebrated Sierra's birthday at Castaway Cove waterpark and hosted a backyard barbeque to celebrate Savannah's. We had family here from Dallas, California and Colorado. It was a full house and a wonderful time. If you'd like to see more party pictures and the famous birthday cake, just visit my website and click the Newsletter link.

If you've also been busy with summer plans all month,
here is what's going on at The Stitching Depot....

Professional style machine quilting gloves have soft flexible fingertip grips to give you full control with less resistance and drag on your fabric. They are form fitting and seamless making it easy to clip, change thread and remove pins without having to take your gloves off. They enhanced hand and wrist support for reduced fatigue and tension in hands, arms, shoulders and neck. Available in XS, SM, ML, XL.

    Colorscope $7.95

View fabrics, yarns or other colored materials through the Colorscope and its internal mirrors repeat the colors giving you an idea of how they will look together in your finished project. Savannah's 1st Birthday

If you have little one's in your life than you probably have a few Baby Einstein DVD's around the house. While Savannah was watching TV I saw her giggle as this colorful caterpillar crawled across the screen and I thought, that would be an easy cake to make. It was a big hit with the big kids too!

I bought a soccer ball cake mold at Michael's and 3 boxes of chocolate and 3 boxes of white cake mix. The head is 2 balls put together with a couple cake pins to hold it together. The rest of the body is alternating white and chocolate half balls. I used 1 ball first cut in half and then cut into 2 1/2" strips (after all I am a quilter) to make the legs. To make the grass I put coconut and green food color in a plastic bowl, cover tightly and shake shake shake. I used Pillsbury Whipped icing to help keep it light weight and found the cookies at the grocery store last minute. That's all!

It whipped together quickly in an evening and is a lot more fun than a dry, boring store bought cake.

    Sierra's 4th Birthday

This was such a fun party. At the last minute I called Castaway Cove and to my surprise they only had 1 other birthday scheduled for that Saturday. If you want an easy party, fully catered I highly recommend the waterpark. And it was super affordable. My entire family really had a fun time, young and old. I'll admit I didn't go all out on the birthday cake, but I don't think anyone really cared - they weren't there for cake!

    June 2008

Summer has arrived and that means the HOT weather is already here in Texoma! Thank goodness my air conditioner went out last month instead of in these 100˚ temperatures. That tough old compressor held out 50 years. Can you believe that?! The new unit is super efficient and super cold!

Have you been downtown for Burkburnett's Main Street Madness event? If not you're missing out on a lot of fun activities. It's every month on the 3rd Friday. Stop by The Stitching Depot for a FREE MARGARITA at our Main Street Mixer. Check out what's new on the shelves and receive 20% OFF ALL regularly priced bolts. That's Friday June 20th from 5pm – 8pm only! Don't forget your Mainstreet Mixer Quilt Block. Bring in last months completed block and receive the next block FREE! (1 per person) If you can't make it on the 20th between 5pm-8pm, that's okay. Come by any time after that and buy back in for just $5. It's not too late to get started. The initial block free is just $5. Past months blocks are available while supplies last. Don't wait! They're going fast!

I'm very sad to announce, my wonderful teacher, Lori is moving to Weatherford, TX this month. The good news is she has promised to return each month to teach a class. While she is here you will be able to schedule an appointment and drop off your quilts to be machine quilted. We'll have a schedule available toward the end of summer, after she gets settled in to her new quilting studio.
